This professional development summer institute workshop will include seminar discussions, group collaborative learning, and hands-on activities. These learning experiences are designed to meet the needs of the experienced and new teachers to the AP Studio Art course. In addition to presenting the new course information, new course framework and course requirements, sessions will include an in-depth look at the big ideas, essential questions, enduring understandings, learning objectives and essential knowledge for each of the three distinct portfolios; ideation for developing lessons that will help teachers guide students with writing to document their inquiry-guided investigation through practice, experimentation, and revision. Exemplar portfolio examples of writing to demonstrate skillful synthesis of materials, processes and ideas will be shared and examined.
Participants will develop curricula to meet the specific needs in Drawing, 2D, and 3D Art and Design. Additionally, we will share thoughts on organization, pacing and time management in the AP Studio class; on integrating individual and group critiques into the curriculum; how to utilize technology to document process, encourage experimentation and teach research skills effectively; we will also be using the lens of historical and contemporary art practices and how these effect image making.
Participants should be prepared to share their experience with teaching AP Studio Art with other workshop attendees.
It is the goal of the instructor to meet the interests and needs of each participant in developing a successful AP Studio Art class experience and provide the most current information for the updated course.
